Want to turn raw analogue atmospheres into unique melodic techno pads that actually feel warm, textured, and alive?

Here's the exact processing chain I use with the Berlin Motion Analogue Atmosphere/Texture pack. I've been doing this for years: it's how I create custom pads every time, not just loop the same sample.

Step 1: Set Up Your Drum Sampler

  • If you haven't yet: Download the Berlin motion drum sample pack here
  • Drag the drum sampler into a new audio channel
  • Set your MIDI note to at least 2 bars
  • Start on C3 (matches the original key of the recorded pad) For other pads from the pack: match their original key, then adjust from there

Step 2: Load the Analogue Atmosphere

  • Drag "C min. Atmos 4" from the Berlin Motion Sample Pack into the drum sampler
  • You can find it under: Loops > Analogue Atmospheres/Textures > C > "C min. Atmos 4.wav"

Step 3: Adjust Sample Settings

  • Start time: 26%
  • Attack: 15.4ms
  • Decay 60.0 s.
  • Hold time: Infinite

Step 4: Apply Stretch Effect

  • In FX, select Stretch
  • Adjust to your liking for texture and movement

Step 5: EQ the Atmosphere

  • Add a Channel EQ behind the atmosphere
  • High-pass filter up to 200 Hz optional: Cut some 350 Hz if adding another pad layer later (gives it room)

Step 6: Add Chorus

  • Add Chorus-Ensemble effect
  • Adjust to your liking for width and depth

Step 7: Add Filter

  • Add Filter-Tilter effect
  • Select preset: I recommend "Water"
  • Boost filter resonance slightly for movement

Why This Works for Melodic Techno

This processing chain gives you:

Quality How It Helps
Warmth High-pass at 200 Hz removes mud, keeps body
Texture Stretch + FM adds analog imperfection
Movement

Chorus + Filter creates motion

Space Wide stereo from chorus-ensemble

Through this technique you're creating a unique pad every time with your own character.

Apply This to Berlin Motion

The Berlin Motion Analogue Atmosphere/Texture pack includes recorded analogue stems designed for this exact processing:

  • Raw analogue textures ready for FX
  • Multiple atmosphere samples (C min, D min, etc.)
  • Built for dark melodic techno with analog warmth

Use this chain on any atmosphere in the pack to create custom pads that sound Berlin-dark but melodic.
